A District Consumer Commission in Malappuram has awarded Rs 50 lakh in compensation to the family of a child who sustained devastating injuries during a neonatal circumcision, bringing an eight-year legal battle closer to resolution. The compensation has been imposed jointly on a private hospital and the operating doctor after the Commission found medical negligence in the case. The incident occurred in April 2018 when the infant, aged just 23 days, underwent a ritual circumcision at a private hospital in Perumpadappu, Malappuram.

Shortly after the procedure, the baby developed a severe postoperative infection with pus formation.
