Case presentation A 5-month-old female child was presented with a history of vomiting for four days along with one episode of convulsion and watery diarrhea thrice a day. Medical history The child’s father reported that the mother was in a rehabilitation center for alcohol addiction, and was released post-pregnancy. On taking a detailed history, the mother was known to consume illegally produced alcohol, particularly high-proof distilled spirits. Physical examination The child’s physical examination revealed that she was drowsy and irritable but arousable.

The anterior fontanelle measured 2×2 cm along with pulsatile, tensed, prominent parietal eminences. The motor system-power was graded 4/5. Pallor was observed throughout the child’s body.
