Head and neck cancer (HNC) is a common malignancy worldwide and the second most common type of cancer in the Indian population, with around 77,000 cases diagnosed annually. HNCs affect the upper aerodigestive tract and may cause alterations in deglutition, phonation, hearing, and respiration. Smoking, alcohol consumption, and use of tobacco are the major causative factors for HNCs worldwide; however, other risk factors include consumption of smokeless tobacco and betel nut, as well as Epstein-Barr virus infection.
