Chronic wounds are a common global health problem requiring early assessment and appropriate treatment. Researchers from the RMIT University and Bolton Clarke Research Institute have developed a new method that provides information on spatial heat distribution in a wound and predicts whether leg ulcers would heal in 12 weeks without specialized treatment with 78% accuracy. The research findings reported thermal images from 56 patients with venous leg ulcers.
This method provides a quick, non-invasive way to determine the wound-healing potential of chronic leg wounds that the HCPs can easily use without requiring any special setting. It is also a light and temperature-insensitive method, making it effective to be used by nurses during their routine patient home visits. Overall, it is a good option to replace the current gold-standard approach that requires taking tracings of the wound…
