Contrast agents are administered in routine invasive angiography through two main routes, either through coronary vessels or through intravenously. The new study suggests that if they are administered through coronary vessels, they cause significantly more damage to kidneys than intravenous administration in coronary computed tomography angiography. The angiography is a common diagnostic test to detect the blockages in the blood vessels. While performing angiographies, contrast materials are injected in the circulatory system to detect if there are any blockages and their locations.
