Synopsis Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is the most common cause of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) which causes intellectual disability. It is caused by trinucleotide repeat (CGG) expansion mutation of the FMR1 gene followed by its transcriptional silencing and reduction of the encoded protein i.e. fragile X mental retardation protein (FMRP). Lovastatin belongs to the class of statins approved by the FDA to treat hyperlipidemia.

It is also considered a promising compound to treat FXS. Additionally, parent-implemented language intervention (PILI) is targeted to improve spoken language, challenging behavior, and parental verbal responsiveness (PVR) in children.
