Malaria disease is characterized by shaking chills, high fever, anaemia and flu-like illnesses. The spread of malaria as the disease is caused by the parasite Plasmodium, which is transmitted to humans through a female anopheles mosquito bites. There were 214 million new cases of malaria & 438 000 deaths caused by malaria in 2015 worldwide. Children under five are particularly susceptible to malaria illness, infection, and death. Malaria infection during pregnancy carries substantial risks for the mother, her foetus, and the newborn child.
