The prevalence of GDM in India is on the rise and is reported to range from 3.8% in Kashmir to as high as 41% in Lucknow. It is estimated that about 4 million women are affected by GDM in India, at any given time point. GDM not only influences immediate maternal and neonatal outcomes but also increases the risk of future Type 2 diabetes in mother as well as the baby. The present lecture entitled ‘ GDM Care in India – Current Challenges and recommendations ’ would mainly focus on the various challenges associated with GDM in India and the latest recommendations in clinical and nutritional therapy to overcome the problems, and to ensure a hassle-free gestation period along with healthy pregnancy outcomes.
