Over 1000 medications and herbal products have been implicated in the development of drug-induced liver injury (DILI), and the list keeps on growing with time. The most common drug implicated in acute DILI is acetaminophen, followed by antibiotics. Worldwide, amoxicillin-clavulanate is one of the most commonly reported causes of DILI. This article deals with the management of this problem. Typically, DILI is initially categorized based on its clinical presentation.

Clinical presentation is majorly of three types: Hepatocellular (cytotoxic) injury, Cholestatic injury, and Mixed injury. If a liver biopsy is required to make the diagnosis or assess the degree of damage DILI can then be further categorized based on its histologic findings.
