District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission VIII (Central), Delhi, has awarded Rs 20 lakh compensation to a woman after holding a private nursing home guilty of medical negligence that resulted in the loss of her fallopian tube and permanent infertility. The case dates back to July 2020, when the complainant tested positive for pregnancy using a home urine pregnancy test. She visited the concerned nursing home for confirmation, where a treating doctor took charge of her case.

The complainant alleged that the doctor confirmed the pregnancy solely on the basis of the home test, without conducting any clinical examination, diagnostic investigation, or obstetric ultrasound, and prescribed medicines along with administering two injections.
