A study published in Diabetes Care evaluated the impact of diabetes on the incidence and site-specific susceptibility of fractures by analyzing data on 204,096 femoral fractures from Danish registries between 1997 and 2021. The analysis included individuals aged 65 years and older with type 1 diabetes (T1D), type 2 diabetes (T2D), and without diabetes. Incidence rate ratios (IRRs) were significantly higher among individuals with T1D for subtrochanteric/femoral shaft (ST/FS) fractures (2.53) and hip fractures (2.17), as well as among those with T2D for ST/FS fractures (1.08) and hip fractures (1.06).

After age adjustment, the incidence of fractures remained significantly higher only among individuals with T1D. In the overall adjusted analysis, both T1D (OR, 1.14) and T2D (OR, 1.05) were significantly associated with higher odds of ST/FS fractures compared with hip fractures. These…
