Retinopathy is one of the most common microvascular complications of long-term diabetes. It affects an individual's vision, causing eventual blindness from retinal damage. Around 93 million adults are affected worldwide (American Academy of Ophthalmology, 2021). Uncontrolled diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, nephropathy, obesity, age, and male gender predispose the risk of developing diabetic retinopathy. The characteristic clinical findings on fundus examination include microaneurysms, hemorrhages, exudates, and intraretinal microvascular abnormalities (IRMA).

Diabetic retinopathy is further classified based on these findings, and early intervention improves the prognosis. For further understanding diabetes and its ocular complications, we have Dr. S. Natrajan joining us for an exclusive webinar on “Diabetic Retinopathy,” 27th February, 6:00 PM onwards . Do not miss the session!
