A seven-year-old boy with a history of eczema presented with an itchy scalp. Examination revealed a fine scale, but no erythema or inflammation on the scalp or at the margins. A coal-tar based shampoo was prescribed. After the shampoo failed to improve the irritation his parents decided to cut his hair. However, he continued to scratch and developed widespread erythema, crusting and some areas of bleeding.

Calamine had been applied to calm the irritation. No other family members had any similar skin lesions and the patient was well. What could be the most probable diagnosis for this condition? * This image based case is from Docplexus editorial team for educative purpose only. Source: Haymarket
