A patient had come to our centre with a history of fever, cough and left sided chest pain. His son requested that an ECG should be taken. He had come at about 9.30am so he was sent to the ECG department. My official timing is 10AM. The patient came back with the ECG. The ECG was normal.
I took the history and did the thorough examination. Chest had rales on the left side and the patient also complained of pain there.I started him on treatment with antibiotics, paracetamol bronchodilators etc. I asked the son to give the ECG for reporting and assured the patient that it is not a Heart Attack but a chest infection with an allergic element. The next day patient came back very happy because he was feeling much better and the ECG report was also normal. This gave me professional satisfaction that my clinical diagnosis was correct. Should I have performed any more tests?
