There are three types of diastolic dysfunctions: Grade 1 or Relaxation Abnormality:: The Relaxation phase slows down, but the compliance of the Left Ventricle is normal. In this situation, the early diastolic filling is only 60%-70% & the filling during late diastole increases. The Left Atrium pressure is normal in resting & during mild to moderate exercise. The Left Atrial pressure increases during tachycardia because the filling is shifting to late diastole and it needs high Left Atrial pressure to fill Left Ventricle without the suction effect of the early relaxation.
In Atrial fibrillation the stroke volume & cardiac output decrease because of the lack of atrial kick.
