IVF specialist Dr. Firuza Parikh along with her team of geneticist edited out BRCA1 mutation in newborn using PGT technique. As per demographic statistics, every year around 8 million newborns are born in India with a genetic abnormality. Such was the case with Bengaluru’s Swayam Prabha who in 2010 found out that she carried deterred BRCA1 (BReast CAncer 1) gene. Since most of the members in her family had died or suffered a cancer outbreak. Therefore, she was determined not to pass on a similar fate to her babies.
