Several doctors in Bengaluru have observed persistent joint pains in their dengue patients long after their recovery. Interestingly, the joint pains did not occur during the illness. The doctors have noticed joint pains developed 15 to 20 days after the infection, particularly in young patients. They termed this condition as post-dengue musculoskeletal syndrome or post-viral arthralgia . According to several observations, this condition affects 20 to 50% of recovered patients and lasts for a few weeks or months.

The doctors suggested that obesity, poor posture, stress, lack of exercise , and overexertion can exacerbate these joint pains. According to the doctors, the joint pains following dengue recovery might be caused by the body’s immune response against the virus.
