In the last 20 years, India has experienced an epidemic explosion of diabetes with a 2.5 fold increase in the number of diabetics since 1990 (1). Although a good number of new classes of drugs are available to physicians for diabetes management, sulfonylureas (SUs) remained a frequently prescribed anti-diabetic agent due to its effectiveness, good tolerability, once-daily oral dosing and inexpensiveness (2,3).
