For many very low birth weight (VLBW)infants, there is insufficient mother's milk and hence they need a supplement of pasteurized donor human milk or preterm infant formula. Due to the awareness about the mother's milk, there is an increase in the use of donor milk, especially in the western countries. This article reports the outcomes of the study conducted on the VLBW infants comparing the effects of human donor milk or preterm infant formula, when supplemented with mother's milk, on the neurodevelopment.
