Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) is a rare, potentially life threatening Drug induced hypersensitivity reaction that includes skin eruption, hematologic abnormalities (eosinophilia, atypical lymphocytosis), lymphadenopathy, and/or internal organ involvement (liver, kidney, lung). This article describes the typical presentation and brief management strategy for the same. The introduction of new drugs like hydantoin and carbamazepine led to the finding of pseudolymphoma and rashes respectively in patients.
Later this condition was termed as Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS).
