Experts at a symposium on “Problems of shoulder joint and its management” organised recently by Uttar Pradesh Orthopedic Association have emphasized that the diagnosis of frozen shoulder at an early stage makes it easier to treat the condition and enhance patient care. Frozen shoulder is a musculoskeletal dysfunction characterized by inflammation of the synovial lining of the shoulder joint capsule, which is why it is also known as adhesive capsulitis . With a prevalence of 2–5% in the normal population and 10–22% in diabetic individuals, the most affected age group is 40–60 years.
The condition has an interesting pathophysiology that happens only at the shoulder; we do not see frozen elbows and knees!
