In India, most of the hospitals are lacking a proper health care waste management system due to the lack of awareness, trained personnel, and financial constraints. Hospital waste if not properly disposed is one of the risk factors for spread of infectious diseases among healthcare workers, patients, community and the environment. This article discusses results of case studies that analyzed biomedical waste management system in Indian hospitals.
