Since the dawn of modern medicine, physician-assisted suicide and euthanasia (PAS/E) have remained illegal in almost all countries and jurisdictions around the world. Still, there are quite a few doctors who believe that the moral, legal, and professional substitute for excruciating pain is “brilliant end-of-life” care. The arguments against PAS/E have been carried along for a long time.
One of the reasons that those ‘in favor’ put forward that the pain and the fear of pain at the end phase of life is one of the most excruciating and in some cases, unbearable phenomena. Therefore, the medical profession as a whole (especially the pain specialists), have a basic responsibility to use all accessible means at their disposal to relieve pain. On the other hand, those who are against PAS/E argue that even the thought of PAS/E is morally wrong as it goes against the sanctity of life itself.
