The USFDA has issued a safety alert on breast implants concerning their potential to lead to the formation of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and various other lymphomas located in the capsule or scar tissue around the implants. According to the FDA’s review, the risk of SCC and other lymphomas located in the tissue around breast implants is a rare occurrence. In some cases, patients with breast implants complained of swelling, pain, lumps, or skin changes.
These reports of lymphoma in the scar tissue differed from the decade-long Breast Implant-associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), which the FDA communicated as a potential risk.
