Like its cultural diversity, the Indian population is genetically also very diverse. Marriage practices like inbreeding and strict endogamy make India a unique country with high prevalence of genetic diseases. Despite India representing one-sixth of the global population, there is no common data available to assess the load of specific genetic diseases. This article sheds light on the first patient based comprehensive database of genetic disorder for Indian Population that would assist in detection and diagnosis of genetic diseases and their carriers.
