Food allergy is an adverse immune response to food. Food allergy can be confused with food intolerance, which is a non-immunological reaction that can be caused by enzyme deficiencies, pharmacological agents, and naturally occurring substances. Food intolerance is not dealt with in this guideline.

This guidance by NICE is focussed upon diagnosing and assessing the food allergy in children and young people in primary care and community settings. These guidelines were issued in 2011 by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and have been documented as “ Food allergy in children and young people ” . The key recommendations are summarised as follows: Assessment and allergy-focused clinical history: Children and young people who have one or more signs and symptoms like pruritus, erythema, atopic eczema, etc should be considered for a possibility of food allergy.…
