Gepotidacin, a triazaacenaphthylene bactericidal drug is used to treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections . However, its efficacy and safety in treating uncomplicated urogenital gonorrhea have not been fully established. To address this, a study has evaluated the effectiveness of gepotidacin in treating uncomplicated urogenital gonorrhea in 628 individuals. The study found that gepotidacin achieved a microbiological success rate of 92.6% compared to 91.2% in those receiving the standard combination of ceftriaxone and azithromycin.

Bacterial persistence of Neisseria gonorrhoeae was not observed in either treatment group. However, participants in the gepotidacin group reported higher rates of mild to moderate adverse events, particularly gastrointestinal side effects.
