One of the most aggressive brain tumors drastically shortens the life span of the affected individuals. Median overall survival for patients diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is approximately one year. Apart from its aggressive nature, GBM also forms a major challenge to both chemotherapy and surgery. Pathology GBM are grade 4 CNS tumors with a heterogenous pathophysiology. The risk of GBM is multifactorial and interplay of environmental, genetic and developmental factors occurs.

Exposure to high dose ionization radiations has been shown to be a definite risk factor in a few studies. Association with familial diseases like Li Fraummeni’s, Turcot’s syndrome, Maffucci’s syndrome and neurofibromatosis is also known.
