The government of Himachal Pradesh is planning to frame a policy that doctors completing their post-graduation from state medical colleges will have to serve within the state for at least 5 years. This initiative has been taken as the state is struggling to appoint specialists in the rural and remote areas. Himachal Pradesh, Health Minister stated that “a proposal is under consideration to award the PG degrees to doctors after three or five years so that during this period they can provide their specialized services in the state.
After serving for five years, they would be free to serve anywhere in the country”. Also, the health minister mentioned that, at present government is taking bond money of Rs 10 lakh from doctors for 5 years but this would be reduced to three years.
