Corneal dystrophy is a rare condition, exact cause not known. It’s thought to be deposition of some unknown substance in the corneal stroma. However, heredofamilial status is a strong risk factor.
Another way of defining corneal dystrophy is lesions in the cornea of an unknown substance which may manifest at birth or in the first or second decade of life which may remain stationary or progressive throughout life. It has got strong heredofamilial tendency clinically.
