The present article provides a short insight into the guidelines for administering general anaesthesia (GA) to pediatric and adolescent patients before carrying out dentistry procedures. These guidelines were published by the Clinical Standards Committee of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2008 and they mainly concentrate on ensuring that children and adolescents receive safe and effective pain control. A variety of techniques are available in pediatric dentistry for anaesthesia, comprising four overlapping categories, namely behavioural techniques, local anaesthesia (LA), conscious sedation, and general sedation.
