Syncope is a state of unconsciousness resulting from a temporary drop in the amount of blood supply to the brain. It is associated with a sudden drop in blood pressure and heart rate. Syncope affects 3% of men and 3.5% of women. The overall prognosis of syncope varies greatly with the underlying etiology.
