I was talking to a professor at a medical school, and we were comparing notes about how medical education has changed over time. He felt that the current crop of medical students is not as motivated and focussed as we used to be, many moons ago. Now I understand that we are old fogies, and we keep on talking about the good old days - about how hard working we used to be; how great our teachers were; and how many sleepless nights we would spend in order to complete our clinical duties. However, it seems to be true that the work ethic of medical students has changed.
In the past, most students were hungry to learn. Sure, there were always slackers in each batch, but students were driven by their personal conscience, and wanted to acquire clinical skills so they could become better doctors.
