Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is frequent among kidney transplant recipients and it is currently the major cause of chronic liver disease following kidney transplantation. Current article summarizes our current understanding of the epidemiology and management of HCV infection in kidney transplant recipients. The prevalence of HCV infection in kidney transplant recipients is significantly higher than in the general population and it is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. End stage renal disease patients are treated with kidney transplantation.
