Worldwide problems of obesity and overweight and related cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), and of type 2 diabetes and cancer, are rapidly increasing, which could be the major cause of morbidity and mortality. New research findings about sugar and saturated fats indicated that the risk rises exponentially as sugar consumption increases, peaking with a fourfold increased risk of CVD death for individuals who consume one-third or more of their daily calories in added sugar and saturated fats.
