While India is proud of the first uterus transplant performed in Pune last week, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has raised concerns about this transplant. According to ICMR director general, “Pune-based Galaxy Care Laparoscopy Institute (GCLI), did not seek its permission for uterine transplant. Till now, ICMR has approved uterus transplant only as an experimental procedure under a research protocol." According to the current guidelines, "Uterus transplant protocol involves several risks with only a few procedures emerging successful.
