A 2-hour old newborn was unable to get the usual red reflex in either eye with the direct ophthalmoscope. The reflection in both eyes was grayish white. The baby was born at 38-weeks gestation and delivered with spontaneous vaginal delivery without complications. The mother denied smoking, alcohol or drug use during pregnancy. Examination Eyes were equal, round and reactive to light, no APD. IOP was not tested.
