Ileo-ileal knotting is a closed-loop intestinal obstruction wherein one part of the ileum is static while the other forms a loop. As a result, a series of pathological events occur that lead to the rapid formation of gangrene with fatal consequences. The mortality rate due to this presentation is 50%, and it is more common among females.
