We have good handwriting, poor handwriting, bad handwriting and occasionally illegible handwriting. So what! Many people in different professions have poor handwriting. No fuss is created even if nothing is made out from their scribbles? Perhaps no action is initiated even if nothing can be deciphered. But, ours is the only profession where doctors give medical orders in the form of prescription or notes in case files. Usually, doctors are busy and have very little time for notes and show the least concern for handwriting.
Sometimes, poor interpretation or wrong inference can be life threatening or even fatal. Simply, asking doctors to write in better hand or legibly is not the solution of the problem! Please suggest! Could something be done to avoid such incidents of importance? What action can be taken against the doctor if orders are correct but were not legible?
