The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has declared a 24-hour nationwide suspension of non-emergency services starting at 6 AM on August 17 to protest against the tragic rape and murder of a trainee female doctor at a Kolkata medical college hospital and the subsequent acts of vandalism at the facility. The IMA strongly condemned the authorities for failing to prevent the brutal crime and the vandalism while the CBI investigation was underway. The association further emphasized that assaults and crimes against doctors are occurring due to the insensitivity of the authorities toward healthcare professionals.
