IMA has requested the government to cancel the pre-natal sex determination law. The request was led after they deemed that the law has achieved very little of the set objectives and is used just for harassing doctors. According to the law, the doctors are required to maintain papers and records of ultrasound scans used for supporting the female foeticide but the doctors had to face the threat of fines or jail time for minor errors in paperwork.
The IMA National President conveyed that the law has failed miserably to attain its prime objective of maintaining the sex ratio in the country from last 24 years and has resulted only in never-ending harassment of obstetricians, gynecologists, and radiologists.
