Imported infectious diseases are an emerging threat and additional burden to the already existing infectious and non-infectious diseases. Increased international travel is a key factor for the outbreak and spread of emerging pathogens and associated disease burden. In this regard, several developed countries have understood the need for an efficient public health infrastructure with professional leadership and trained healthcare personnel to manage such infectious diseases.

Reports suggest that adequate information about imported infectious pathogens is of utmost importance to control such diseases at the earliest.
