India Heart Study (IHS) revealed that 42% of Indians are at risk due to misdiagnosis of hypertension. This may result in masked hypertension or white-coat hypertension and may be associated with heart, kidney, and brain complications, leading to premature mortality. Therefore, accurate diagnosis of hypertension is an important element to improve health outcomes. This study highlights the high prevalence of masked hypertension and white-coat hypertension in Indians during the first clinic visit.
