Despite performing the world's third-highest number of solid organ transplants, India is meeting only a small fraction of its actual transplant need, according to a new analysis published in The Lancet Regional Health - Southeast Asia. The study projects that demand for kidney, liver, heart, and lung transplantation will continue to rise through 2040, while even optimistic improvements in transplant capacity may fall short of bridging the gap.
