High-income countries spent about $7,300 per person on healthcare in 2023, compared with approximately $346 in India, according to World Health Organization data analyzed by Our World in Data. The figures include both public and private healthcare spending and are adjusted using purchasing power parity to account for differences in local prices. That puts per-capita healthcare spending in high-income countries at roughly 21 times India’s level.

India’s spending was also close to the average for lower-middle-income countries, which stood at about $360 per person. Upper-middle-income countries spent considerably more, at around $1,400 per person, while low-income countries averaged $125.
