In a landmark step toward healthcare digitization, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has announced that every Indian citizen will receive a Digital Health ID by mid-2026. This initiative, part of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), aims to create a unified health record system accessible across hospitals, clinics, and labs nationwide. The unique 14-digit Health ID will store key medical information such as prescriptions, diagnostic reports, and hospital visits, which can be securely shared with healthcare providers after patient consent.

Officials claim this will reduce duplication of tests, streamline referrals, and improve continuity of care particularly beneficial for patients with chronic illnesses who consult multiple doctors. For doctors, the digital health ecosystem is expected to improve clinical decision-making by giving access to complete patient history,โ€ฆ
