The beauty and wellness industry, including hair, skin, cosmetology , and dental cosmetology clinics, is growing tremendously; however, there are no defined regulations for running such clinics in India. As a result, in many cosmetology clinics, medical procedures are performed by unqualified staff without medical supervision. Last year, a 35-year-old man died after undergoing hair transplantation in a Delhi salon. Noting that the procedure was performed without any medical professional supervision, the Delhi High Court directed the National Medical Commission and the Health Ministry to regulate such practices.
Following that order, the Indian Government has planned to implement minimum services standards for cosmetology clinics nationwide. Sub-committees for each cosmetology specialization have been formed to define standards of services. The new regulations will address the problems…
