The burden of anemic women in India is huge and contributes to the major morbidity and mortality rate. According to the World Health Organization report, 1992, the average prevalence rate of anemia in Indian women was found to be 56% (1). More than one-third of Indian women are micronutrient deficient. Insufficient nutrients, menstrual blood loss, frequent reproductive cycle, malaria, other infections, etc.
decreases the iron content of the blood and causes anemia (2). Government of India, in 2013, contributed to spreading awareness about anemia through National Nutritional Anemia Control Programme, National Iron Plus Initiative (NIPI), and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
