Intrathecal Dexmedetomidine 200mcg+ Bupivacaine 4cc with 27G needle , replaces Epidural catheterisation for knee / Hip Replacement surgeries . This is very safe even in 70+ years age group . Today I gave this to a 75 year old female patient with Lumbar spinal canal stenosis . 3 hrs in prone position - O2 saturation is 95 -96 % through out , no discomfort, Heart rate between 65-70 , Blood pressure 80-100 systolic , 50- 70 diastolic , Surgery went on perfectly well .
