I found it interesting that a surgeon/surgical oncologist is treating chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) patient since 2009 and never did proper monitoring including BCR - ABL testing (world wide standard test in all guidelines since long back). Patient old reports even 3 years back was suggestive of progression of her cancer, but the doctor continued on same medicines.
Are surgeons are legally allowed independently to treat such cases? How should I counsel the family as there is clear evidence from reports from that her cancer progressed to advance phase even 2-3 years back?
